5 Common Problems with Samsung Screens

Are you the owner of a Samsung phone that’s having a few setbacks? Do you fear that your new Samsung is going to fall victim to some of the most common issues? If so, then you need to start by learning about some of the most common problems with Samsung screens.

Doing so can help you take preventative measures to avoid them. If you notice the signs of wear and tear, you can have it professionally repaired to dodge any major setbacks.

See below for an in-depth guide on some typical issues that you might face with your Samsung screens and phones at some point.

1. Cracked Screens

Full disclosure: this isn’t just a Samsung screens thing. This is the most common issue with any phone screen. It’s also quite common with other devices, such as iPads or Windows Surfaces.

We’ve all been there; you accidentally drop your Samsung phone on the floor. It falls flat on the screen side to further the suspense. Was that the sound of glass shattering? How bad will the damage be when you go to pick it up?

Far too many phone users take the wrong approach to this situation. They put off getting it replaced, which can lead to such consequences as:

  • Water sneaking in through the cracked screen and permanently damaging your phone
  • Creating health risks such as cuts on your face, fingers, and palms
  • Inhibiting a clear visual for Zoom calls, videos, etc.
  • A build-up of dust, dirt, pollen and other pathogens can affect the screen’s visibility

If your Samsung product has a cracked screen, be sure to seek a professional repair service for assistance.

We can give you a quote online right away. Simply visit this page and tell us about the type of device that you need to be repaired, the brand (Samsung, in this case), the model, and the service you need.

2. Battery Life is Fading Fast

One of the worst feelings in life is that moment when you realize your phone’s battery is almost dead. Doesn’t it always seem to happen at those moments you’re nowhere near a phone charger

Samsung batteries have plenty of juice, so you can’t chalk it up to poor manufacturing and design. That said, there might come a time when the battery drains faster than you were expecting it to. For example, instead of being at 10-percent around 5 pm like it usually is, it hits 10-percent around 1 pm.

Many users are quick to blame themselves, but it might not be anything you did. Oftentimes, the phone’s battery dies when too many apps are requiring energy.

Your Samsung will point you in the right direction. Just go to Settings –> Device Maintenance –> Battery. There you will see a breakdown of any sizeable apps that are requiring too much attention.

You might also try saving your battery with these hacks:

  • Lower the brightness on your phone
  • Delete unnecessary apps you no longer use
  • Turn off your screen as soon as you’re done with it
  • Turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when they aren’t being used

If the problems persist, then it might be an issue with something internal. In that case, reach out to us to get the problem fixed easily.

3. Screen Doesn’t Respond to Touch

Perhaps you’ve gone to open an app and the phone doesn’t respond. Maybe you’ve needed to tap on the screen a few times before it makes any adjustments.

Unfortunately, this is a common issue with Samsung phones. You should start by restarting the phone and seeing if the issues persist. Try to close all unused apps.

The phone’s unresponsiveness could also be a sign that it’s overheating. If your phone feels hot to the touch, simply store it in the fridge for 30 minutes and then try to restart it.

If the problem happens on multiple occasions, bring it to professional repair service. The issue is likely something internal that needs to be fixed or replaced.

4. The Phone is Too Touchy

Some of you might have the opposite problem as the one above. Instead of your phone not responding, you have a hypersensitive one that seems to open up apps at will.

This is a common reason for the ever-popular “butt dial“—when your phone calls someone’s number while it’s in your pocket.

Thankfully, Samsung has an easy way for you to fix this at home. Go to Settings, then open up the “Display” option. Once you’re there, you’ll see an option that reads “Accidental Touch Protection”. Turn the switch on and it will be more selective about responding to touch when in a dark place (such as your pocket).

5. Phone Restarts on its Own

This is never a good sign. If your Samsung has an issue with restarting unannounced, it can cause severe issues in your personal or professional life. You don’t want your biggest client or hot date thinking that you hung up on them.

Generally speaking, this might be a sign that your device is too old. Too much wear and tear can affect the performance of the “old faithful”.

That said, there could be a slight repair that fixes it. Reach out to us and we’ll advise you on whether we can fix it or if you should be looking for a new device soon.

5 Unexpected Reasons to Update Your Mac

Are you wondering about the benefits you get when you update a Mac?

Your computer’s operating system helps your Mac run better. Yet, some people might put off updating their operating system because it requires them to have their chargers on hand. Then, they might forget to update it once the computer is plugged in.

But there are some clear and even unexpected benefits to having an up-to-date operating system. Below, we’ll get into the top 5 unique benefits of having updated Mac software features. Keep reading to learn more and get more out of your Mac experience!

1. Get Better Features

Having an updated operating system gives you access to the best software features that Apple offers. When you buy your Mac, you’ll automatically get all the latest features that Apple has developed.

Yet, most people keep their computers for a number of years. Macs are designed to last 5-8 years, and many new features get made within that time. As such, you should update your Mac in a regular fashion to make sure you get the most out of your computer.

The latest version of the Mac’s operating system is the MacOS Monterey. Apple introduced it in 2021. If you’re reading this a long time after that, you might want to check to see if there have been any newer updates!

MacOS Monterey has many new features you might want to take advantage of. These include productivity tools, such as Quick Note, Focus, and Live Text. Quick Note lets you make brief notes without opening Apple Notes. Focus lets you limit your notifications and maintain your concentration. You can use Live Text to select text in images and copy, paste, or translate it.

2. Fix Software Glitches

When developers release updates, they look for ways to improve their user experience. This includes handling any bugs or glitches that people have noticed since the last version came out.

So, if you’ve noticed your computer glitching or struggling to run well, it might be time to update the operating system. Check to see if an update notification has come through yet. If it has, plug in your computer and begin the update installation process. Your computer will need to remain connected to power throughout the course of the update.

3. Improve Your Computer’s Security

When Apple products first grew in popularity, people boasted that they were immune to the computer viruses that plagued other desktop and laptop computers. Unfortunately, this rumor has become popular. It’s not true

Malware and spyware evolve to target the systems of different computers. So, when a new system comes out, hackers start working on viruses and other forms of malware that will target those systems.

The older an operating system, the more vulnerable it is to hackers, malware, and viruses. This is because hackers have had a long time to figure out how to best navigate around old software.

Still, Apple’s developers try to stay ahead of the game when it comes to preventing malware. One benefit of getting the newest update is that it will protect your computer from the malware that targets older systems.

As such, you need to keep your system updated if you want to keep yourself safe from people who try to harm your computer.

4. Get Access to More Software

Whenever Apple updates its operating systems, other companies have to adapt. This is especially true for companies that create apps and games.

It’s not possible for a developer to create a game that works well on every operating system. As such, most developers only make their games accessible on the most recent systems.

If you have a slightly older operating system, you’re likely to maintain your ability to use apps and games for a while. If you let it go for too long, though, you might struggle to find apps and games that work with your device.

So, you should stay ahead of the curve and update to the newest operating system. That way, you won’t ever need to get something and then not be able to because of an older operating system.

5. Have a Faster-Running Computer When You Update a Mac

If you’ve ever noticed your computer running slow, you should look into updating it.

When you update a Mac, your operating system will run faster. This is because the bugs and glitches in the software have been fixed, making the system more efficient.

In some cases, such as when many new features are introduced, you might notice it running a bit more slowly. This happens because the tools can slow the operating system down.

Still, for the most part, operating systems run faster when they get updated. If your computer keeps running slow, you should call a professional to take a look at it. You might have a virus or other issue with your hardware.

Need a Mac Repair?

Now that you know why you should update a Mac, you will need to know how to go about it.

Apple sends out notifications when an update becomes available. You can choose to update right away. This will take a few minutes and require you to restart your computer. It will also close down your applications, so make sure you save any documents. If you don’t have time right now, you can ask Apple to update it later.

This usually happens overnight, so keep your laptop plugged in overnight.

Fixing an iPad Screen: Your Guide to Expected Costs

Are you tired of looking at a cracked screen every time you go to use your iPad? Have you always wondered what it would cost to have that fixed? If so, then you need to learn all that you can about iPad repair.

There are many common questions on the subject. How much does it cost to fix an iPad screen? What are the factors that affect the price? Is there really any benefit to fixing the screen rather than leaving it broken?

See below for an in-depth guide on fixing an iPad screen and all of the costs that you can expect if you invest in it.

How Much Does It Cost to Fix an iPad Screen?

It’s fair to wonder how much you should expect to pay if you get your iPad fixed. The answer depends on a variety of factors.

The first thing that affects the price is the model of your iPad. Different models require different screen specs, materials, and processes for ensuring a secure fit.

For example, fixing an iPad 2 screen would only cost you around $98 with our services. However, fixing an iPad Air 4 (as an example) would cost around $398.

The price of an iPad screen repair climbed significantly after the iPad Air 2. Up until that point, both the glass and LCD (liquid crystal displays) were separate features. However, to confine the size and benefit the overall functionality of the iPad, Apple decided to turn the two features into one element.

Because of that, you can expect your iPad screen repair to cost anywhere between $200 and $600. The cost is generally more than replacing an iPhone screen, so be sure to keep that in mind.

If you’re interested in hiring someone to fix an iPad screen, then it never hurts to ask them for a quote. Worst case scenario, you don’t find the price reasonable enough to pursue. That said, we’ll explain in a bit why fixing your iPad screen is essential.

What to Look for in an iPad Repair Service

The primary challenge of getting your iPad screen fixed is finding the right service for the job. If you’re going to spend the money, then you should make sure to receive the highest possible return on your investment.

But how do you know when you’ve found the right one? First, start by reading through their customer reviews and pondering these questions:

  • Does their customer seem happy with the service that they received?
  • What problems were they experiencing with their device?
  • What device did they hire the service to fix?
  • How quickly did they perform the iPad screen repair?
  • Would they recommend the service to others?

Next, take a look at their website. Do they offer iPad screen repair for the model you have? Here at Fruit Fixed, we can fix the screen of any iPad from the iPad 2 and beyond! We also offer repairs for any internal issues that your iPad is experiencing.

Make sure to reach out to us for any problems you’re having with your devices. You can get an instant quote for our services through our website.

What Are the Benefits of Getting Your iPad Screen Fixed?

Some of you have gone far too long with a broken iPad screen. See below for several reasons why you should get it fixed right away.

Avoid Costly Repairs

In a lot of ways, fixing an iPad screen is a lot like getting the oil changed in a car. Many people put it off until it’s too late; they start experiencing bigger issues as a result.

If you don’t get your iPad screen fixed soon, it could result in other problems. For example, water could get into your device and permanently damage it. So much so, that we might not be able to bring it back to its former glory.

Instead of neglecting the screen, get it fixed immediately. That way, you can avoid costly repairs or replacements.

Save Money

Some of you out there are facing a fork in the road. You’re trying to decide whether you should pay to have the iPad screen fixed or purchase an entirely new one.

In most cases, you should elect to do the former. This will extend the life of your iPad and help you save a great deal of money over purchasing a new one.

Even though the “power of new” can be tempting, think of it this way: buying a new iPad means transferring all your data, figuring out the new software, and navigating through a new array of bugs.

Safety for Your Family

This might be the most obvious reason of all. Using an iPad or iPhone with a cracked screen can be a danger to yourself and anyone else that uses the device.

Make no mistake about it, that screen is comprised of glass and can easily cut your finger while scrolling through social media or clicking through different apps.

Meanwhile, if you fix an iPad screen, then you have nothing to fear. The new screen will provide an enjoyable experience. Your kids can use it to play games, watch movies, etc. without you worrying about their health.

Your Software Guide: How to Update a Mac Safely

Recently, almost 40,000 MacBook users had malware issues. Most malware has the goal of stealing information or damaging your computer.

The most recent case has caused many experts to scratch their heads with the latest attack. It also leaves many users wondering what steps they can take to protect their computer and how to update a Mac.

Updating your Mac to the latest software is a critical step in protecting yourself and sensitive information on your computer. If you have an interest in installing the newest software safely, keep reading on for more information!

What Is an Operating System?

The operating system is the software that manages your computer. It helps ensure that everything is running smoothly and manages your programs or applications installed.

Ultimately, the operating system helps everything run more smoothly and coordinates your applications and software for better compatibility and user experience. Like PC and other brands, Apple has created its operating system known as macOS.

The newest Mac OS update is macOS Monterey. It was released on October 25, 2021, and provided an onslaught of improvements and updates to the old operating system Mac computer owners had.

Software Updates vs Software Upgrades

The difference between an update and an upgrade is the level of new software installed. For example, the latest Mac OS was upgraded from the prior software. However, Apple will also release minor adjustments and updates that help fine-tune the current software.

These small changes made to the new Monterey system are a software update. How can you tell if you need to install a new OS or check for updates?

How to Update a Mac

If you want to update your Mac, there are a couple of ways to go about it. First – find the Apple icon located in the top corner of your laptop or desktop screen. You can select ‘System Preferences’ or ‘About This Mac.’

Next, you will locate the icon labeled ‘Software Update,’ and your computer will automatically check for an update or upgrade at that time. If you don’t want the responsibility of regularly checking your Mac for an update or upgrade, you have the option of selecting ‘Automatically keep my Mac up to date.’

Your Mac will notify you of any newly released upgrades or updates if you select this box. Once you have clicked the installation button, your Mac might need some time to install the software.

Make sure your computer is plugged into a charging outlet (if applicable) and let it complete the full download.

New Upgrades

What does the new macOS Monterey have to offer Apple users? One of the most significant upgrades was the Universal Control.

Users now can control their Mac and iPad with one mouse and keyboard. Other changes affected:

  • iMessages
  • Photos
  • Apple Books
  • Safari
  • FaceTime

Safari now includes iCloud Private Relay that encrypts any traffic leaving Safari and helps further protect your Mac and private information from being intercepted. Mac recently released new products that have the Apple M1 chip.

With the new macOS release, users with the latest chip can experience a few new key features with FaceTime, audio, and Maps. The newest upgrade also provides a new level of security not seen with other macOS.

Apple released its version of a VPN that will hide your IP address from outside viewers. However, it requires a subscription, but you might find it worth your while for an added vote of security.

The new Mail features also help fine-tune some issues with the Big Sur OS by protecting your IP while viewing remote content.

Software Issues

Software issues often arise when you haven’t updated your Mac in a while. Keeping your Mac up-to-date is critical for protecting your information and reducing your chance of getting a virus on your computer.

Although Macbooks are well-known for their lower risk of viruses, not updating or upgrading your software increases your chance of having your computer crash. Computers that haven’t been updated in years can eventually cause certain apps to stop working because they are too far outdated.

Hackers constantly change their tactics, and software companies have to do the same. Updating and upgrading your software helps install added safety measures that can prevent viruses, bugs, and crashes from occurring.

However, like any new software, some issues sometimes pop up. Most problems arise in users who have older macOS versions and are upgrading to the newest one.

Issues like long download times, battery drains, and Bluetooth issues have arisen with the newest macOS. Apple addresses these problems and releases software updates designed to fix the minor problems with a big upgrade.

So – what can you do if you find yourself running into problems with old or new software systems? Sometimes, it can be unclear whether the issue resides with the software or hardware. When you have an older computer or laptop, the issues can seem more glaring and render your computer useless.

When this happens, you want to call on the experts. They can help quickly locate the problem and use their expertise to help fix the problem and get you back up and running. Repairing a computer yourself can be risky and cause more issues.

You should go to Apple computer experts for the best advice.

Latest Upgrades

If you have followed the steps on ‘how to update a Mac’ and are still running into issues with your computer, you need a professional team on your side.

Sometimes, problems with upgrades or updates are inevitable. It is never a surefire way of avoiding deadly malware or viruses. Additionally, if you want your computer cleaned up or a screen repaired, an Apple team can help you with various concerns.

Top PlayStation Maintenance Tips

Are you wondering how to keep your Playstation working for longer? Playstation maintenance is an important endeavor if you want to have fun on your device for years to come. A good Playstation can last you for more than 20 years if you take good care of it. Playstations that aren’t well-cared for work for a much shorter period of time.

So, if you want to make the most of your money, you need to perform maintenance on a regular basis. Below, we’ll get into some basic Playstation maintenance tips. Keep reading to learn more about common Playstation problems and how to fix them!

Clean Your Device

Your Playstation should serve as a part of your regular cleaning routine. If dust and debris get in your Playstation’s vents, they can clog the device’s cooling system. This leads your Playstation to overheat, causing functioning issues.

As such, you should always store your Playstation in a place that has protection from loose particles. A great option is an entertainment center shelf. When you dust your furniture, take out the Playstation and clean its surfaces, focusing on the vents.

Once the particles get into the cooling system, you might need to take your Playstation apart to clean it. You shouldn’t do this unless you know what you’re doing, though. Otherwise, you may end up damaging your device further.

To learn how to clean the inside of your Playstation, look up how to take apart its model. If you’re uncertain about doing it, you can always bring it into a Playstation maintenance shop and let the professionals take the lead!

Ventilate and Keep Out of Sunlight

To further prevent your device from overheating, you need to keep it in a space with great ventilation.

As such, you shouldn’t store it in an enclosed space. The area around it should stay clear of objects, and you shouldn’t put anything on top of it. That way, your device’s cooling system can work the way it’s supposed to!

You also need to keep it out of direct sunlight. The sun naturally heats up your Playstation, which can cause damage.

Give It the Proper Power

Your device won’t work well if it isn’t receiving the right amount of power from your outlet. Whenever possible, plug it right into the wall. This gives it the most direct access to a power source.

If you use a surge protector, make sure you don’t plug in a ton of other devices. This will divert power away from your device, causing it to run in a less efficient manner.

At the same time, you should unplug your Playstation during severe weather. When the power goes down and then comes back on, it can cause a surge that fries your electronic devices.

What If Your Playstation Network Is Down?

If you’re unable to log onto your Playstation Network, you should first check to see if the network is down. Playstation sometimes takes the network offline for a short period of time. This is so the developers can work on bugs and make a better gaming experience for everyone.

If your Playstation Network is down for more than a few hours, though, you might have a problem with your device. First, check your internet connection. If your wifi is down, try resetting the router. If this doesn’t work, you’ll need to have a technician fix it before you get on the network again.

If you check your wifi and it appears fine, you might need to check if your Playstation is in range. Try moving it to another room to see if the wifi works better. Take it into the shop if you can’t get it to work.

Install the Latest Updates

Keeping your device up-to-date is an important part of maintaining its good working condition. If you don’t install the latest updates, you won’t get rid of all the bugs the developers have already fixed.

Over time, this might lead to a lower level of functioning in the operating system.

Check Your Games

If all else fails, it might not end up being a problem with your Playstation at all. Instead, you might have an issue with the games you’re putting into the device.

People who have physical copies of games need to keep them in good condition. Don’t leave your discs lying around. Instead, transfer them from their casings to the game console and back again. If you’ve lost your casings, purchase disc sleeves and keep them in a cool, dry place.

If your disc has been left out, clean it. Get a cloth and wipe from the inside circle outward. Don’t scrub or be too rough. This could cause unintended scratches, making your gameplay even more dysfunctional.

Never try to play games on outdated operating systems. Check the minimum system requirements on each game and make sure your system has that. If it doesn’t, you might not have the ability to play the game.

iPad Screen Repairs: A Quick Guide

When is it time to call for professional iPad screen repairs? How much do you know about your tablet’s screen and the different damages that can happen to it?

Apple sold over 500 million iPads in the last decade, making it one of the most popular tablets in the world. Over those years, the company upgraded and refined the technology used on iPad screens. However, even with the latest technology, it’s still a fragile device and you may need to get it repaired soon.

Don’t fret if you don’t know much about iPad screens and iPad repairs. We’ve prepared this iPad screen repair guide to help you understand the topic more. Continue reading our in-depth list below to learn more:

Identifying Your iPad’s Screen

Not all iPads feature the same kind of screen technology.

Older devices have separate layers. The first layer utilizes a glass panel and digitizer, the latter of which handles touch sensitivity. The second layer is the actual LCD screen that displays the images.

Newer iPads (and iPhones for that matter) now use a single layer. This layer fuses the LCD with the digitizer and glass panel.

What does this mean for you in terms of iPad screen repairs?

It all comes down to convenience and repair options. If an older device breaks, you might only need to replace the top layer but keep your LCD. This is cheaper than having to replace the whole assembly, which is your only option when it comes to newer iPad tablets.

Dealing with Cracks

Cracks are going to be the most common issue. Your iPad can suffer from a crack for a wide range of reasons. A drop while walking could already cause the screen to shatter.

Accidentally sitting on your iPad can also cause it to crack. It can also crack if something falls on it, like a rock or mug. Cracks and scratches can also occur if you put your iPad in a bag along with coins, keys, and other sharp metallic objects.

The best way to prevent cracks is to slip your iPad into a protective case. This will keep the back safe. However, to keep the front safe, you should equip a screen protector.

Stuck Pixel or Dead Pixel

A screen displays colors via small dots, called pixels. Your iPad screen can look fine, with no visible cracks, but look for a black pixel that won’t display colors properly. If this occurs, you might have a stuck or dead pixel.

Stuck pixels aren’t too difficult to deal with. You can download software that will excite the pixel, heating it as it cycles through different colors and brightness. This rapid activity should be enough to wake the pixel up and get it working again.

There’s no hope for a dead pixel. You most likely need to replace the whole screen for that. This is a lot easier if you have an older iPad since you only need to replace the upper layer.

Screen Replacement

A small crack might not seem like an issue but if it grows, whole portions might blackout. You won’t be able to read segments of your screen.

Dead pixels will also require a screen replacement. The damaged pixel could harm the ones beside it. It’s an unlikely scenario but the burn damage could spread after frequent use.

Even without a crack, you might need to replace your whole screen. Accidentally exposing your iPad to water could damage the strip connecting the iPad screen to the tablet’s motherboard, for example.

Speaking of the connecting strip, if it breaks, you’ll need a new screen as well. It’s not as simple as replacing the wires and strip with a new one.

Damage From Water

Water can also damage your screen. This is one of the worst problems for an iPad simply because you might not notice the issue quickly. The water could seep in and cause damage long before you notice visible signs.

For example, water could ruin the digitizer or the underlying pixels. This can cause screen burning, dead pixels, or washed-out colors. Water can also damage the strip connecting the screen to the tablet’s motherboard.

Issue With Apple’s Warranty

Take a moment to go over your iPad’s warranty. There is a big issue with the sections regarding the warranty for water damages. It all falls back regarding your iPad’s Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI).

The LCI should appear normal even after exposure to rain. If it dropped in the toilet bowl, sink, or a bucket of water, newer iPads should still function. The screen should still work and the ports won’t break.

However, if the LCI appears red, the tablet needs repairs. Unfortunately, you won’t find a lot of iPad screen repair tips when it comes to water damage. You’ll need a kit to replace the screen or bring it to a professional repair shop.

DIY or Professional iPad Screen Repairs

Should you try to fix your iPad by yourself or bring it to an iPad screen repair shop? The better choice is to bring it to a professional. A shop, like ours, has the tools needed to get the job done right.

How to Repair the Most Common ps4 Controller Problems

Most of the time, your PS4 controller will work as intended. On the rare occasion it doesn’t, though, it can really ruin your day.

Fortunately, the PS4 has been around for a long time. By now, we’re very familiar with all its faults, quirks, and features. Needless to say, this makes troubleshooting a PS4 controller a relatively simple process.

Not sure where to start? Here’s a list of the most common PS4 controller problems and what you can do about them.

Controller Won’t Pair to Ps4

The fastest way to pair a controller to a PS4 is to plug it in using a micro-USB cable. Then, press and hold the PS button for a few seconds.

If this connects the controller to the PS4, the light bar should light up. If it doesn’t, the light bar will only flash for a bit before turning off. In this case, try restarting the console and repeating the above method.

If the controller still doesn’t respond, it’s best to reset it entirely. Turn the PS4 off, flip the controller, and look for a small hole next to the L2 button. This hole hides a button that resets a controller to factory settings.

To reach this button, you’ll need a pointed tool like a bent paperclip. Jam it in there until it gets to the button, then hold it there for about five seconds. Your controller should now have no issues pairing to the PS4.

Controller Keeps Disconnecting

Even if you connect the controller to your PS4, it may disconnect while you’re playing. There are a few remedies for that as well.

First, make sure that the controller’s battery isn’t almost dead. This is an obvious thing to miss, but it’s still worth checking out. Hold the PS button to display the Quick Menu, and you’ll see the battery life at the bottom.

If the battery seems fine, your controller may be too far from the console. The standard range for Bluetooth is about 30 feet. Remove any routers or metal objects between the controller and PS4, as they may block the signal.

Is your controller disconnecting while you’re watching movies or media apps? Head to Settings > Power Save Settings and set the controller to never turn off. That will prevent it from disconnecting while it’s idle.

Trackpad Isn’t Working

Newer PS4 controllers don’t have trackpad issues too often, but they do happen. Most of the time, cleaning the trackpad should do the trick.

Start by making a 50/50 measured solution of water and isopropyl alcohol. Slightly dampen the trackpad with the solution, then clean it up with a microfiber cloth. Wait for the controller to dry and turn it back on.

Don’t try to speed up this process by using compressed air. The only thing this will do is push some of the liquid into the controller.

If the trackpad is broken, it’s time to start thinking about the PS4 controller repair. Replacing it won’t work, as these parts aren’t readily available. Plus, a replacement could compromise your controller’s USB port.

Controller Isn’t Charging

If your controller isn’t charging, try testing your USB cable on another device. That will ensure that the issue lies with the controller itself.

Once you’ve determined that the cable is fine, plug it back into the controller. Then, inspect it by giving it a light touch. If the cable seems loose or not secure, there’s a chance that the USB port needs some cleaning.

First, get a can of compressed air and blast some air inside the port from 2-3 inches away. This should remove any dust or grime buildup. Once the dust is out, clean up the residue with a microfiber cloth.

Now, get a toothpick or another type of thin needle. Wrap a slightly damp paper towel around your toothpick and use it to wipe out the inside of the port. Once the controller is completely dry, turn it back on.

Controller Can’t Hold a Charge

Not being able to hold a charge is another common PS4 controller problem. The older your controller is, the higher the chances of this happening.

In 99% of cases, this indicates an issue with the battery. Batteries degrade over time, and some degrade more harshly than others. There are ways to save battery life, but this is only a temporary solution.

Other than getting a new controller, your best bet is to replace the battery. That said, doing it yourself will likely void the warranty. If your warranty is still valid, have the dealer replace the battery.

To do this yourself, you’ll first need to remove the four screws at the back of the controller. Use a pair of tweezers to pull off the plastic cover. Then, detach the ribbon that’s connected to the motherboard.

Now, use the tweezers to detach the battery plugs from the motherboard. Do this by gently rocking them side-by-side to loosen the plug. Lift the old battery, plug the new one in, and reassemble the controller.

Buttons Are Getting Stuck

No matter how much you care for your controller, expect some wear and tear. For example, the analog sticks and buttons may start getting stuck.

Again, isopropyl alcohol is the best solution here. Rub some of it on a Q-tip and apply to all the buttons and sticks on the controller. Press the buttons and rotate the sticks to allow the solution to penetrate.

Once you’re done applying the solution, let your controller dry before turning it on. If the issue persists, give this method another shot. If that doesn’t help either, you may need a new controller.

Leave ps4 Controller Problems to the Pros!

With some luck, the above methods will help you solve your PS4 controller problems. If this isn’t the case—or you’re uncomfortable with some of the steps—your best bet is to take the controller to a professional.

What to Do When Your Computer Freezes: A Quick Guide

In the business world, computers are replaced every 3 to 5 years. If you’ve got a personal computer, then there’s a very good chance yours will last longer. However, as your PC gets older, it’ll run less and less smoothly. It might take a while to boot up, or even worse, it might freeze up! If your computer freezes, it can be scary. Not only will you potentially lose all your files, but you might have to buy a new PC as well!

But before you panic, take a deep breath. Here’s what to do before you run out and replace your computer.

Give It a Few Minutes

If your computer freezes randomly, don’t just rush to shut it down and reboot right away. Instead, wait a few minutes to see if it’ll unfreeze itself.

Sometimes, a process might use up lots of resources, so your computer will freeze while it’s getting this task done. This is especially true if you have an old computer, as it won’t be running optimally.

If your computer does respond after you wait a few minutes, you’ll want to go through your computer and free up some space and close down unused programs. That way, it won’t have to work as hard at processing tasks.

For example, if your computer freezes on startup, you might have too many startup programs. You’ll want to go through the list and keep only those that are essential.

Check if Your Computer’s Deadlocked

A computer deadlock is when 2 programs prevent each other from accessing resources on your device. As a result, both of them stop functioning and make your computer freeze.

To see if your computer’s deadlocked, press your caps lock button a few times. If the LED light on your keyboard doesn’t turn off and on, then this means your computer’s deadlocked.

In the case of a deadlock, you’ll have no choice but to restart your computer. In this case, press the power button to turn it off, then again to reboot.

See if There’s an Unresponsive Program

Have you pressed the caps lock key and the LED light turned off and on? Then the good news is, your computer isn’t deadlocked!

In this case, you’ll want to check if there’s an unresponsive program. This can happen if your computer isn’t optimized or the software wasn’t written well.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and this will open up your Windows Task Manager. From here, you’ll see the Processes tab by default.

If there’s an unresponsive program, it’ll appear at the very top and the second column of Status will say “not responding”. Click on that program and then select End Task. Do note that it can take up to 20 seconds for the program to shut down, so give it a little time if your computer’s still frozen.

Once the program’s closed, your computer should return to normal.

Check Your Browser

Sometimes, what’s causing the freeze isn’t a program, but rather, a tab in your browser. This is thanks to an improperly coded website, which can then get stuck in an infinite loop for loading. Or it might be incompatible extensions you’ve downloaded.

To see if this is your issue, go into your browser’s task manager. If you use Chrome or Edge, press Shift+Esc. For Firefox users, you’ll have to go to More Tools and then Task Manager.

In the Task Manager, you’ll be able to see which tabs or extensions are using an excessive amount of resources. It’ll also tell you which things are freezing. Try closing out these pages and extensions and see if your computer stops freezing.

For extensions, you might want to keep them disabled if that helps your computer run smoothly. Either uninstall and find a better extension or keep an eye on new versions to see if they’re more compatible.

Do an Antivirus Scan

It won’t hurt to do an antivirus scan, especially if you haven’t run one in a while. You never know if a piece of malware is causing your computer to freeze up!

You should also use something like Malwarebytes to be extra sure there are no bad files lurking around.

Have an Expert Look at It

There’s only so much you can do at home on your own. If you’ve tried everything above, but your computer keeps freezing, then it’s time to have a professional technician look at it.

Our staff will be able to carefully examine your computer and find out exactly what’s wrong with it. Not only that, but we source only high-quality parts for our clients.

Most importantly, we have fast turnaround times. We understand how important your computer is to your daily life so we’ll get it back in your hands in a flash. Most of our computer repairs take 2 to 4 hours, so you can go run errands while we get you back up and running.

Combat Computer Freezes

Computer freezes can be annoying and scary. Not only do you lose work you’ve done, but there’s also a chance that your PC’s done for, permanently.

However, there are several steps to take before you write off your computer for good. And by having an expert take a look at it, you just might be able to save your device.

In the worst-case scenario, you’ll have to replace your computer. But hopefully, you’ll at least have your data backed up so you don’t have to start over completely from scratch.

PlayStation 4 Repair Tips That You Should Know

The PlayStation 4 is a vastly popular system with over 110 million units sold. Since the release of the Playstation 5, we are edging closer to the end of its life cycle.

As such, many systems will begin to need repairs after years of use. Whether you’re a novice or an expert on Playstation 4 repair, you should familiarize yourself with these basic repair concepts to avoid bricking the console.

But, what exactly are these simple repair solutions? This guide will give you some repair tips to help keep your console running in mint condition.

Faulty HDMI Ports

One of the biggest PlayStation 4 problems includes a non-functioning HDMI port. These issues are more common with the original build of the Playstation 4.

This is a small piece in the rear of the motherboard. This piece is soldered onto the motherboard to provide access to the HDMI port.

One way to note whether the HDMI is bad or not is the white light that comes on inside of your console. If you see this light with no signal to the display, this can signal a bad port.

You can remove the HDMI cable and shine a flashlight into the HDMI port. This can reveal bent connections disrupting the signal.

A small chip, called an IC chip, located on the motherboard behind the HDMI port, can fail. Sometimes, currents from a thunderstorm can reach this chip and cause damage as well.

Sometimes the IC chip has damage but the HDMI port is functioning. A great way to troubleshoot this is to test out the HDMI port with a new HDMI cable.

In this case, replacing this chip can help bring that picture back, if needed.

Accelerated Processing Unit

The PlayStation 4 has what is known as an accelerated processing unit or an APU. This chip holds both the CPU and GPU in the same chip. You can also find this chip on the motherboard.

If you remove this chip and flip it you can see many tiny solder balls. In certain cases, these tiny balls will heat up to the point of melting. Thus, they will melt onto the motherboard.

Since these units do all the processing, they can inhibit your system. In other cases, these units can go bad.

You might have oxidized pads on the APU or even cracks in the solder joint within the chip. This will signal the blinking blue light on the PlayStation. Or, the PlayStation will power on only to immediately shut off.

If you own an older model, you can place washers under the clamp that rests on the APU. This will tighten the clamp and may restore the connections under the APU.

Another more time-consuming method is replacing the solder balls. Once you replace these solder balls you can then solder the solder balls back onto the board.

As you can imagine, this is quite difficult and is a costly emergency if the washer method does not work.

Power Supply & PlayStation 4 Repair

Among the many PlayStation 4 problems is the connection to the power supply.

A simple readjustment that most people forget is checking the power cord connection. A loose power cord can cause flickering blue light and random system shutdowns.

This can cause the power supply to not function. It will disrupt the delivery of power to the system.

Make sure the power cable is securely flush into the back of the console. Also, in certain cases, check to see if the cable is plugged into a power strip.

Power strips are useful but can sometimes it can cause a shutdown problem for the PlayStation. You can troubleshoot the shutdown issue by plugging the cable into the wall instead of a power strip.

It’s a strange solution but is an effective method of fixing power issues.

If this does not solve the issue, you are likely facing the BLOD or the Blue Light of Death. In this case, you may need to visit a PlayStation 4 repair shop.

Disk Drive Issues

One of the many PlayStation 4 problems is the disk drive issue. There are many fixable solutions to this problem.

One common problem includes the bottom plate dislodging from the disk drive. The rollers under the bottom plate can loosen and dislodge themselves from the disk drive.

This will prevent the disk drive from receiving PlayStation discs. In addition, when replacing the hard drive, there are tiny module pieces that can also break. This will also disrupt the disc reading process.

Make sure the rolling pins under the disk drive are clean. Clean up any loose pieces fumbling around the bottom of the disk drive as well.

Disc Read Error

Sometimes you’ll place a disk drive into the console and an error message will appear. The message will relay that the disk is unreadable.

Make sure to keep your discs inside their cases when not in use. You can also clean the disc to make sure the disc itself is not the issue.

But, if you are frequently seeing this message, you may have an issue with the laser.

The laser inside the disk drive is a fragile piece of hardware. In a smoking house or a house with pets, the lens of the laser can get dirty.

Sometimes, you can clean it, but it’s wise to replace the laser reader itself if you are experiencing issues reading discs.

Renewing Your PlayStation 4

In many cases, if simple fixes do not work, you’ll need to send the PlayStation 4 console to an independent PlayStation 4 repair shop. The PlayStation warranty does not cover most system failures.

These troubleshooting tips can help triangulate the problem. Becoming knowledgeable in these PlayStation 4 maintenance tips can help you better communicate with your repair professional.

The Most Common Android Phone Problems and How to Fix Them

Since 2010 when it first debuted, Android has gained over 2.5 billion users all over the world. In some countries, Android accounts for 85% of all smartphones. Even in the United States, where iPhones are popular, Android phones are used by people from every walk of life. Dependable and cheap, there are some Android phone problems you should be aware of.

Not all Android problems can be fixed, but some have steps you can take to lessen the damage or inconvenience. For each issue, some Android phone repair tips will be included.

Battery Issues

The bane of every smartphone user, Android phones are no strangers to battery problems. The lithium batteries used by Androids will wear out over time. For most people, the battery doesn’t become a problem until you have to charge it more than once a day.

You can take steps to prolong the life of your battery. Like all lithium batteries, full-cycle charging, from 0% to 100% is not recommended. Instead, you should make sure that the phone is never completely dead and never charged.

Taking care to not overcharge or drain the battery can extend its life by double or more. There will come a point that no amount of monitoring will save the battery. When the battery gets old, you will have to replace it or take that as a sign that you should get a new phone.

There are a few other steps you can take in order to increase the battery life. A big source of power drain comes from the brightness of the phone. Turning this down will save you a large amount of power.

A Slow Android

It isn’t just time and age that slows down your Android phone, but that does play a part. Newer processors work better and apps come out optimized for the latest phones. You can take steps to prevent your phone from operating at a snail’s pace.

One of the biggest culprits of phones slowing down is the apps or types of apps that you are using. Apps like Facebook are notorious for taking up a lot of resources. Google Chrome is another app that will eat up memory and processor power and slow down your phone.

Not using these apps can increase the speed that your phone operates. You can also remove them from your library if possible, but at least make sure they aren’t running in the background. If that doesn’t solve the problem, your phone has reached the end of its life.

Low Memory

The dreaded low-memory notification can pop up at any time. When it does, it means that your Android has used up all its internal memory. This can be because of pictures, too many apps, or a combination of saved content on the phone.

Older phones are susceptible to this as the size of apps increases. If your phone is giving you this message, consider printing off your pictures or deleting text conversations and applications. This should free up enough memory for the phone to function.

If you don’t take care of this problem the phone can slow down. This is because the phone requires a certain amount of memory for the operating system to function. This is one of the most common Android phone problems.

Apps Freezing Up

There are a lot of apps out there, and sometimes we find one that just doesn’t want to work on our phone. With Androids, this is often caused because of problems with the coding of the app or with the ads it wants to display. Sometimes it’s not the app, it is our phone and there isn’t always an easy fix.

You can discover whether it’s the app or your phone by booting the phone in safe mode. This will allow you to run the app without third-party windows or advertisements showing up. If this fixes the problem, you should remove the app because it won’t work outside of safe mode.

If it continues to not work, there isn’t much you can do. Sometimes applications just don’t agree with our phones. You can try to reinstall the application, but if that doesn’t solve the problem there’s a good chance nothing will.

Damaged Screen

A cracked or damaged screen can happen to any phone. If your phone has a cracked screen it isn’t ruined, you can get it repaired. Professional Android phone repair is available in case you don’t know how to replace the screen yourself. Don’t struggle to try to use a damaged screen.

The cracks in a smartphone screen mean that it won’t read your input the way it should. This means that you may find yourself misclicking, sending erroneous messages, and other embarrassing situations.

Failure to Charge

This must be one of the most common Android phone problems. If you have plugged your phone in but don’t see the charging icon over the battery meter, the phone isn’t charging. This can happen for a variety of reasons.

Sometimes this can indicate a problem with the battery. Even more common is an issue with the charging cord. Sometimes there can even be damage to the USB port that the charger connects to the phone through.

Visually inspect the phone and cord. If you notice any damage to the cord, replacing it isn’t difficult but it will cost money. You can replace the battery, but if the damage is to the USB port you will need professional help to repair it.

Android Phone Problems and You

For as advanced as our phones have become, it isn’t uncommon to have problems. There are a lot of little issues that spring up from time to time. If you experience any issues with your phone, always try to restart the phone and see if that has solved it.

For physical damage and other Android phone problems, you can contact us. At Fruit Fixed we are excited to answer the questions you may have and take care of any damage to your phone.
