Steam Deck Repair: Video Console Troubleshooting Tips

Here’s a pleasant surprise: Steam offers more than 50,000 games for you to enjoy.

But what happens if your Steam Deck suddenly encounters an issue? This can be something minor like an issue with sound, or something that prevents you from using your device altogether. No matter what the issue is, you need troubleshooting and possibly Steam Deck repair.

Luckily, there are plenty of options you can take if you’re trying to fix your Steam Deck at home. This helpful guide walks you through Steam Deck troubleshooting so you can get back to playing in no time!

Initial Steam Deck Fixes

Before you assume something is wrong with your Steam Deck, there are some basic troubleshooting techniques you can try.

First, look for any system updates. You can find these by going to “Steam,” then “Settings,” then “System,” and then “Software Updates.”

Next, you’ll want to restart your Steam Deck. You can either do this from your Software Updates section or you can go to “Steam,” then “Power,” and then “Restart.”

Finally, check to see if there are any third-party installations causing your system to malfunction. These might be installed in Desktop Mode. Ensure you exited out of them or disabled them, then retest your system to see if the issue resolved itself.

Should none of these easy troubleshooting options work, you can attempt a forced start. Simply hold the power button down for three seconds. If your system still doesn’t turn on with this method, you might have an issue with your OS level.

For this type of issue, you’ll need to hold your power button down for 10 seconds. If this still didn’t resolve the issue, there are more advanced techniques you can attempt. When these Steam Deck fixes don’t work, you can try to individually troubleshoot for various issues or take your device in for professional repair.

Steam Deck Not Charging

This might seem obvious, but if you’re just using your Steam Deck for the first time, you need to plug it in using the power supply the company shipped it to you with. This wakes your Steam Deck from shipment mode, something used to save your battery. Otherwise, your Steam Deck most likely won’t turn on.

If this isn’t the first time you’ve used your Steam Deck and it’s still not turning on, then you need to plug it into a power source and check to see if the LED light is on (this is located next to its charging port).

If your Stem Deck’s LED light comes on, it’s charging. Once your console is fully charged, the light will turn off.

Should the light start to flash once you press the power button, it means your Steam Deck’s battery is completely drained. Plug it in, check to see if the LED light comes on, and charge it for a minimum of 15 minutes before attempting to power it back on.

Once you give your Steam Deck some time to charge, if your power button still fails to work, you can hold the “Volume +” button as you attempt to power it back on. Next, select “Continue”. This will boot your Steam Deck via its BIOS options.

When your console is on the charger for an extended time, it’s normal to show less than 100% charge. To ensure optimal battery health, the battery slowly discharges after a while.

Input Issues

Are you experiencing issues with your Steam Deck’s inputs? If so, try the following troubleshooting methods.

Go to “Steam” and then “Settings.” Look for “Controller” and “Test Controller Inputs.”

You can use “Test Controller Inputs” to help locate any issues using your test suite. Run this diagnostics test and once it’s complete, press and hold the “B” button.

Sound and Bluetooth

To check your Steam Deck’s audio setting, begin by going to “Steam,” then “Settings,” and then “Audio.”

If the issue is with your speakers and you don’t have any audio, check to see that there aren’t any other devices enabled for audio. These devices might be connected through USB-C, the 3.5mm jack, or Bluetooth.

If this is the case, switch your Steam Deck to another output and go back to its default speakers. Check that your device’s UI sounds are enabled. To check these settings, go to “Steam,” “Settings,” “Audio,” and “Enable UI Sounds.”

Should you still not hear any audio after checking these settings, you’ll need to restart your Steam Deck. You can do this by going to “Steam,” “Power,” and then “Restart.”

If you’re struggling to pair Bluetooth to your device, ensure that it’s in pairing mode. To do this, go to “Steam,” “Settings,” and “Bluetooth.” Look for your device in this list.

From there, use your device’s touchscreen to select your device. You can also press the “Menu” button to check for different pairing options. If you can’t pair with a device you previously paired with, your best bet is to forget the device and pair it again.

Why Is My Nintendo Switch Lite Not Turning On?

If you’re a gamer, then you’re undoubtedly excited about the 100+ major video game titles slated for release just in 2023. Unless your device suddenly stops working, rending your upcoming games unplayable.

Is your Nintendo Switch Lite not turning on? Should this be the case, you need to troubleshoot your device immediately so you can get back to doing what you love — playing video games.

Although your device might need professional video game console repair, there are several tips and tricks you can try at home, which this helpful guide outlines.

Let’s begin!

Common Issues to Consider

There are several reasons why you’re experiencing Nintendo Switch Lite Problems. Although you can try different troubleshooting tricks, you might need to have your Switch Lite professionally repaired.

Here’s what could be wrong with your Nintendo Switch Lite:

  • Its battery is flat
  • The console is broken
  • The electricity supply is compromised; this could be at the wall or the cord
  • Issues with its software

If you delete software, there’s no need to worry about your saved date, as it won’t be affected. After you delete your existing software, you can use the same Nintendo Account to purchase and re-download the software.

In some instances, your Nintendo Switch Lite won’t turn on even if you charge it. Other times, your screen will remain blank but your speakers will still have audio.

Keep in mind that, when troubleshooting, if you press the “Power” or “Home” button, your Nintendo Switch Lite will be unaffected when in Sleep mode.

Now that you understand some of the causes behind a Switch Lite failing to turn on, you can start troubleshooting.

Charge Your Battery

Before investing in Nintendo Switch Lite repair, ensure you charge your battery. Even if you perform a hard reset, your Nintendo Switch Lite won’t turn on until you charge your battery for three hours. Always use a suitable adapter (more on that to follow).

Begin by clicking your device’s “Power” button. You can find this in the top-left corner.

Hold it for 20 seconds, forcing your device to shut down. Click your “Power” button once to try and turn it back on.

You also need to reset your device’s AC adapter. Begin by unplugging your AC Power adaptor from both your Nintendo Switch Lite and the power supply. Keep it unplugged for 30 seconds.

Check Your AC Adapter

Make sure to check that the AC adapter you’re using is compatible with your Nintendo Switch Lite.

Other adapters might be the issue, so swap out the one you’re using with a Switch Lite adapter. This AC adapter should also be compatible with your Switch Lite’s controller. To check and see if your AC power adapter is the culprit, try using a different one and see if the issue corrects itself.

If there aren’t any issues with your AC adapters and you tried charging your device, the issue could be with your charging cables or the docking station. You might also want to check a different wall outlet to see if that’s the issue. When testing to see what part of your device may be broken, plug your AC adapter into a wall outlet instead of a power cord, as it might be faulty.

Won’t Turn on When Charging

It’s a possibility that your Nintendo Switch Lite won’t turn on when charging. There are several reasons for this.

First, you may have completely drained its battery by overusing it. This means you need to let it sit and charge for a bit.

Next, it’s possible that your Switch’s screen has frozen. This happens from time to time, and you can tell this has happened if you still see the charging symbol despite a blank screen.

Soft Reset

A soft reset may be your best bet for Nintendo Switch Lite troubleshooting.

Ensure your Lite has charged for an hour. Once it’s charged, disconnect its charging cable from the Switch or the dock.

Press the “Power” button. Hold it in for 20 seconds. Release it.

Your Switch will power down. Press its “Power” button again to see if it turns on. If it doesn’t, it’s time to try another step.

Forced Reset

Begin by holding your Nintendo Switch Lite’s “Power” button for 12 seconds. This is enough time to force a hard reset on Nintendo Switch. After you do this, you’ll need to press your device’s “Power” button once again to hopefully turn it back on.

If your Nintendo Switch Lite still won’t turn on, double-check that it’s charged. If, after 30 minutes of charge time, it still doesn’t turn on, you’ll need to try a different way of troubleshooting.

Remove Your SD Card

You run the risk of losing any stored data while you attempt to reset your Switch Lite, so always remove its MicroSD card. This will also let you know if the MicroSD card is the culprit and is corrupt.

Blow on your SD card to try and remove any dirt and debris. Replace it to see if your Switch turns on.

Replace the Joystick

Depending on how technically inclined you are, you can try replacing the joystick.

If your Switch Lite still won’t turn on, you might need to reconnect its battery. It’s also possible that you reassembled it improperly and its motherboard isn’t working correctly.

Additionally, there’s a chance you damaged something during reassembly, which is why it may be best to let professionals repair your Nintendo Switch Lite.

Xbox Updates: How to Make Sure They Load

During the last year, Xbox subscriptions rose by 40 percent. Online connections have revolutionized gaming, doing away with the use of physical discs and allowing constant improvements with updates. Yet do you know how to deal with problems when they go wrong?

One of the most frustrating aspects of this is when updates won’t load. Read on as we discuss how to load Xbox updates.

Reasons Your Xbox Won’t Update

Your Xbox system updates may fail for several reasons. We have listed the most common below.

Internet Connection Issues

Your home network may be one of the reasons your Xbox won’t update. You should check and see if there are any issues with your internet connection. It may be stopping or dropping out, in which case updates may take longer or not work at all.

You can do a connection test using the Xbox itself. Press the Xbox button on the controller to open up the guide. Go into settings, followed by all settings.

Travel to network and network settings. On the right-hand side, you should be able to select an option to test the network selection. Run the test and it will inform you if you have an issue with the connection.

Server Issues

Occasionally, Xbox itself will update its servers. This may result in downtime for the system. You can check online to see if this is the problem or Microsoft’s own social media accounts may be able to tell you.

Corrupt System Cache

To load games and apps quickly, the Xbox will use a temporary set of files in the system cache. When you have corrupted files it can cause issues and prevent updates from loading. You can try clearing the cache to see if the system updates.

Corrupted Gamertag

It is rare but some problems can be caused by bugs in your Gamertag. Corrupted profiles can result in it not being able to load. In this instance, you will need to download the profile again.

Troubleshooting When Your Xbox Won’t Update

Luckily, several solutions may solve the issues. After checking the points above, you can start the methods below to get updates working.

Power Cycling

It is a simple solution but one that is often effective. Begin by holding down the power switch on your Xbox One console and shutting it down fully. You can then turn the system back on and see if the problem is still there.

Do a System Reset

There are two types of system reset. One will keep your games and apps and the other will remove everything. Begin by pressing the Xbox button on your controller to bring up the menu.

Select settings then go to all settings. Go into the system menu then select the console info and updates option. Choose the option to reset your console.

Do this using the option to keep your games and files first. As a last option, you could try a total reboot but understand that you will lose everything.

Add a Wired Connection

If you think that part of the problem may be due to your internet connection, then you can try connecting with a LAN connection instead. Move the Xbox closer to your router and connect an ethernet cable from one end and into the back of your Xbox. Try testing the connection again and see if the problem has been resolved.

Is There an Error Code?

When your Xbox begins to update but fails, it can give you an error code. These are used by Xbox to diagnose problems and it is possible to use them yourself to assess the situation.

Write down the code or error message. Do a quick search online. Even if you can not find an official announcement about it, forums such as Reddit often have lots of people with the same issue discussing how they solved it.

How Do I Bypass an Update?

Should you want to play a game without the update, it is possible. To do this you will need to go offline.

Travel to settings, go into network, and tag the offline option. If you want to turn online mode back on, then simply repeat the process.

What Do I Do When a New Game Gets Stuck on 0%?

One update problem many people encounter is during the preparation of a new game. The console can often say ‘Preparing 0%’ and never go past this point. This can be frustrating when you are eager to play a new title you have just paid for.

Numerous problems can cause this. Below are the main solutions that you can try.

  • Install all updates
  • Reset the cache
  • Restart the console

Failing this, if the game is a new release check online. Other people may have the same problem and the developers may be working on fixing it.

How to Fix a Black Screen After an Update

In some instances, once an update occurs you may be met with a black screen. Start by checking it is not an issue with your television and its connection to the console. Make sure they are both on and ensure you have the right HDMI input set.

Make sure your HDMI cable is in the out to TV port on the Xbox. If it is still not working then try plugging it into a different HDMI port. Try a new HDMI cable if you still have issues.

Should none of these happen, then follow the instructions for a full reset in the previous section. A black screen is usually an indicator of connection problems and not something to do with the Xbox itself.

Further Troubleshooting

Now you know how to troubleshoot these Xbox updates you should be able to solve the problem. There are other related issues, but in many instances, Xbox can fix them on its end. Contact support if you can still not get it right.

The Gaming Guide: How to Build a Goof Gaming PC

Anyone who plays video games on a PC will swear that you need to build a gaming PC to get the best experience. Gaming PCs are specifically designed for running video games. This means they need plenty of storage, power, and the ability to run high-quality graphics.

But if you don’t know how to build a good gaming PC, it’s difficult to know where to start. How do you know which parts are good for a gaming PC?

The best place to start is the parts you’ll need to build a computer. Read on to learn what you’ll need to build yourself the best gaming PC possible.

CPU

CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. You can think of this as the nervous system of your computer. Every command that you give your computer goes through the CPU.

The CPU receives your commands, decodes them, and then executes them. This means that every little button push on your keyboard is read by the CPU.

PC games produce instructions at pretty fast rates. This is why you’re able to see into the distance as you move whenever you’re playing a game. For this reason, a gaming PC’s CPU needs to keep up with the heavy demands of video games.

Motherboard

If the CPU is the nervous system, the motherboard is the circulatory system of your computer. It connects the entire system so that everything works in harmony.

To start with, it determines what kind of hardware and add-ons you can put in your new computer. The motherboard distributes electricity to all of your computer’s hardware. It then connects all of that hardware to the CPU.

It’s important to get a motherboard that’s recommended for gaming when building a gaming computer. This makes sure that all of your other hardware can keep up with demand.

Cooling System

The unfortunate thing about any electronic device is that it gets hot after extended use. The heavier the device is used, the hotter it gets. The problem is that if it gets hot enough, then parts might start to melt and get damaged.

To prevent this, computers all come with a cooling system. This is usually a type of fan that turns on periodically to prevent the computer from getting too hot. In other words, if you want your new gaming computer to last for a long time, then a good cooling system is important.

Graphics Card

Everything you see in your video games is the result of graphics development. The issue is that it takes more than a gaming monitor to display those graphics.

Your computer’s graphics card determines how well your screen can display your games. Older games can probably run fine with a lower-quality graphics card. If you want to play newer games on your PC, however, then you should definitely consider getting a better graphics card.

This will ensure that the game not only runs well on your computer but also that it looks good at the same time. You’ll never miss an important item again with a high-quality graphics card.

Memory

Your computer’s memory really serves as its short-term memory. Any time you use your computer, it remembers what programs you’ve used and what files you’ve opened. However, this information goes away whenever you shut down your computer.

While you’re using your computer, however, this allows you to quickly switch between active programs. This is the reason that you can have both a game and a chat room open on different screens at the same time.

But memory isn’t unlimited. The more programs you have open, the slower each program runs. So it’s important for gaming PCs to have a fair amount of RAM to run multiple programs at the same time.

Storage

If memory is for the short-term, then storage is for long-term memory. This is where you find all of the files and programs that you put on your computer.

This includes messaging apps, web browsers, and any games you download to your computer. Your computer needs to have enough storage to hold any games you want to play as well as any other apps you need to maximize your gaming experience.

Gaming requires a lot of storage, so keep that in mind when shopping for PC parts.

Power

Your computer is completely useless if it doesn’t turn on. To do that, your computer needs a power source. This provides electricity to the motherboard, which then distributes it to the appropriate hardware.

This means that there has to be enough electricity to your computer for all of your hardware to run. This includes the memory, storage, CPU, graphics card, and even the monitor.

Computers have a lot of hardware to power, so it’s important that you get a pretty strong power source to run your new gaming computer. This way you can enjoy your games without worrying.

Case

Finally, you need something to hold everything in place. Otherwise, your hardware will have a hard time staying in one spot. This means that pieces will become disconnected, the cooling system won’t reach all of the hardware, and you might even lose power completely.

This is why all computers have a case. This maintains the structure of the computer. It has designated places for all of your hardware. Some people even get clear cases and place decorative lights inside for a bit of flare.

Just be careful when adding extra decorations inside to ensure that the cooling system is still operating properly.

Learn How to Build a Good Gaming PC Today

Once you have these parts, you just need to put them together properly to make your new gaming PC. Other than that, now you know how to build a good gaming PC of your own. The best part is that if one part starts to fail, it’s easily replaced.

And if you ever need any tips or repairs to any part of your gaming PC, just let us at Fruit Fixed know. All you have to do is find a store near you and let us help you fix your devices.

Top PlayStation Maintenance Tips

Are you wondering how to keep your Playstation working for longer? Playstation maintenance is an important endeavor if you want to have fun on your device for years to come. A good Playstation can last you for more than 20 years if you take good care of it. Playstations that aren’t well-cared for work for a much shorter period of time.

So, if you want to make the most of your money, you need to perform maintenance on a regular basis. Below, we’ll get into some basic Playstation maintenance tips. Keep reading to learn more about common Playstation problems and how to fix them!

Clean Your Device

Your Playstation should serve as a part of your regular cleaning routine. If dust and debris get in your Playstation’s vents, they can clog the device’s cooling system. This leads your Playstation to overheat, causing functioning issues.

As such, you should always store your Playstation in a place that has protection from loose particles. A great option is an entertainment center shelf. When you dust your furniture, take out the Playstation and clean its surfaces, focusing on the vents.

Once the particles get into the cooling system, you might need to take your Playstation apart to clean it. You shouldn’t do this unless you know what you’re doing, though. Otherwise, you may end up damaging your device further.

To learn how to clean the inside of your Playstation, look up how to take apart its model. If you’re uncertain about doing it, you can always bring it into a Playstation maintenance shop and let the professionals take the lead!

Ventilate and Keep Out of Sunlight

To further prevent your device from overheating, you need to keep it in a space with great ventilation.

As such, you shouldn’t store it in an enclosed space. The area around it should stay clear of objects, and you shouldn’t put anything on top of it. That way, your device’s cooling system can work the way it’s supposed to!

You also need to keep it out of direct sunlight. The sun naturally heats up your Playstation, which can cause damage.

Give It the Proper Power

Your device won’t work well if it isn’t receiving the right amount of power from your outlet. Whenever possible, plug it right into the wall. This gives it the most direct access to a power source.

If you use a surge protector, make sure you don’t plug in a ton of other devices. This will divert power away from your device, causing it to run in a less efficient manner.

At the same time, you should unplug your Playstation during severe weather. When the power goes down and then comes back on, it can cause a surge that fries your electronic devices.

What If Your Playstation Network Is Down?

If you’re unable to log onto your Playstation Network, you should first check to see if the network is down. Playstation sometimes takes the network offline for a short period of time. This is so the developers can work on bugs and make a better gaming experience for everyone.

If your Playstation Network is down for more than a few hours, though, you might have a problem with your device. First, check your internet connection. If your wifi is down, try resetting the router. If this doesn’t work, you’ll need to have a technician fix it before you get on the network again.

If you check your wifi and it appears fine, you might need to check if your Playstation is in range. Try moving it to another room to see if the wifi works better. Take it into the shop if you can’t get it to work.

Install the Latest Updates

Keeping your device up-to-date is an important part of maintaining its good working condition. If you don’t install the latest updates, you won’t get rid of all the bugs the developers have already fixed.

Over time, this might lead to a lower level of functioning in the operating system.

Check Your Games

If all else fails, it might not end up being a problem with your Playstation at all. Instead, you might have an issue with the games you’re putting into the device.

People who have physical copies of games need to keep them in good condition. Don’t leave your discs lying around. Instead, transfer them from their casings to the game console and back again. If you’ve lost your casings, purchase disc sleeves and keep them in a cool, dry place.

If your disc has been left out, clean it. Get a cloth and wipe from the inside circle outward. Don’t scrub or be too rough. This could cause unintended scratches, making your gameplay even more dysfunctional.

Never try to play games on outdated operating systems. Check the minimum system requirements on each game and make sure your system has that. If it doesn’t, you might not have the ability to play the game.

How to Repair the Most Common ps4 Controller Problems

Most of the time, your PS4 controller will work as intended. On the rare occasion it doesn’t, though, it can really ruin your day.

Fortunately, the PS4 has been around for a long time. By now, we’re very familiar with all its faults, quirks, and features. Needless to say, this makes troubleshooting a PS4 controller a relatively simple process.

Not sure where to start? Here’s a list of the most common PS4 controller problems and what you can do about them.

Controller Won’t Pair to Ps4

The fastest way to pair a controller to a PS4 is to plug it in using a micro-USB cable. Then, press and hold the PS button for a few seconds.

If this connects the controller to the PS4, the light bar should light up. If it doesn’t, the light bar will only flash for a bit before turning off. In this case, try restarting the console and repeating the above method.

If the controller still doesn’t respond, it’s best to reset it entirely. Turn the PS4 off, flip the controller, and look for a small hole next to the L2 button. This hole hides a button that resets a controller to factory settings.

To reach this button, you’ll need a pointed tool like a bent paperclip. Jam it in there until it gets to the button, then hold it there for about five seconds. Your controller should now have no issues pairing to the PS4.

Controller Keeps Disconnecting

Even if you connect the controller to your PS4, it may disconnect while you’re playing. There are a few remedies for that as well.

First, make sure that the controller’s battery isn’t almost dead. This is an obvious thing to miss, but it’s still worth checking out. Hold the PS button to display the Quick Menu, and you’ll see the battery life at the bottom.

If the battery seems fine, your controller may be too far from the console. The standard range for Bluetooth is about 30 feet. Remove any routers or metal objects between the controller and PS4, as they may block the signal.

Is your controller disconnecting while you’re watching movies or media apps? Head to Settings > Power Save Settings and set the controller to never turn off. That will prevent it from disconnecting while it’s idle.

Trackpad Isn’t Working

Newer PS4 controllers don’t have trackpad issues too often, but they do happen. Most of the time, cleaning the trackpad should do the trick.

Start by making a 50/50 measured solution of water and isopropyl alcohol. Slightly dampen the trackpad with the solution, then clean it up with a microfiber cloth. Wait for the controller to dry and turn it back on.

Don’t try to speed up this process by using compressed air. The only thing this will do is push some of the liquid into the controller.

If the trackpad is broken, it’s time to start thinking about the PS4 controller repair. Replacing it won’t work, as these parts aren’t readily available. Plus, a replacement could compromise your controller’s USB port.

Controller Isn’t Charging

If your controller isn’t charging, try testing your USB cable on another device. That will ensure that the issue lies with the controller itself.

Once you’ve determined that the cable is fine, plug it back into the controller. Then, inspect it by giving it a light touch. If the cable seems loose or not secure, there’s a chance that the USB port needs some cleaning.

First, get a can of compressed air and blast some air inside the port from 2-3 inches away. This should remove any dust or grime buildup. Once the dust is out, clean up the residue with a microfiber cloth.

Now, get a toothpick or another type of thin needle. Wrap a slightly damp paper towel around your toothpick and use it to wipe out the inside of the port. Once the controller is completely dry, turn it back on.

Controller Can’t Hold a Charge

Not being able to hold a charge is another common PS4 controller problem. The older your controller is, the higher the chances of this happening.

In 99% of cases, this indicates an issue with the battery. Batteries degrade over time, and some degrade more harshly than others. There are ways to save battery life, but this is only a temporary solution.

Other than getting a new controller, your best bet is to replace the battery. That said, doing it yourself will likely void the warranty. If your warranty is still valid, have the dealer replace the battery.

To do this yourself, you’ll first need to remove the four screws at the back of the controller. Use a pair of tweezers to pull off the plastic cover. Then, detach the ribbon that’s connected to the motherboard.

Now, use the tweezers to detach the battery plugs from the motherboard. Do this by gently rocking them side-by-side to loosen the plug. Lift the old battery, plug the new one in, and reassemble the controller.

Buttons Are Getting Stuck

No matter how much you care for your controller, expect some wear and tear. For example, the analog sticks and buttons may start getting stuck.

Again, isopropyl alcohol is the best solution here. Rub some of it on a Q-tip and apply to all the buttons and sticks on the controller. Press the buttons and rotate the sticks to allow the solution to penetrate.

Once you’re done applying the solution, let your controller dry before turning it on. If the issue persists, give this method another shot. If that doesn’t help either, you may need a new controller.

Leave ps4 Controller Problems to the Pros!

With some luck, the above methods will help you solve your PS4 controller problems. If this isn’t the case—or you’re uncomfortable with some of the steps—your best bet is to take the controller to a professional.

Common Xbox One Problems and How To Fix Them

The Xbox is one of the most famous gaming consoles of all time, and its newest iterations carry on the legacy. The Xbox One has performed remarkably well in sales, selling over 50 million units

However, for all its success, several Xbox One problems can hinder a player’s experience. When confronted with these problems, gamers often have no idea how to solve them.

Many of the most common issues are on this Xbox One problems list, including the prominent display and update problems. We’ll also discuss what to do if you hear strange sounds in the disc drive and how to prevent losing game data from sleep mode.

If you’ve faced these problems, then you’ve come to the right place! In this guide, we’ll explore some standard Xbox One’s problems and how to solve them. With any luck, you’ll get back to playing your console in no time!

Xbox One Display Problems

Have you ever turned on your Xbox One and heard music that showed it was on but had a completely black screen? Unfortunately, this problem is a common Xbox One issue. It’s an unpleasant issue, and often rebooting the system won’t help.

So, how can you solve the issue? First, try replacing the HDMI cable. Sometimes this cable performs poorly, resulting in weakened or missing video displays. Other times, you may find that reconnecting the cable can help.

If these solutions don’t work, try holding down the power button on the case for ten seconds. From there, turn on the console. Theoretically, this could solve the problem.

If all else fails, consider resetting the video settings. To do so, follow these instructions:

  • If there’s a disk in the console, remove the disk
  • Hold the power button until the console shuts down
  • Hold the power button at the same time as the eject button
  • You’ll hear a beep sound first, but don’t release the buttons until you hear a second beep
  • After this, the console will reboot with a low resolution
  • From there, you can reconfigure the video settings

With these solutions, you will most likely see results. Otherwise, it may be best to take it to professionals for repairs.

Xbox One Problems with Updates

Have you ever decided you wanted to play an Xbox One game, only to be told that you can’t play the game until the update downloads? Sometimes, this isn’t a big deal. A small update may last less than five minutes.

Other times, however, an update may take up as much as half an hour. If you have to wait that long to play a game, it may be a source of frustration.

If you’ve been wondering how to fix this bug, we have some bad news. Unfortunately, this is a feature, not a bug. Unlike its competitors with Nintendo and Sony, the Xbox One doesn’t allow you to skip an update to play a game.

What does this mean? At some point, you’ll eventually have to download the update. However, in the meantime, there is a workaround you can use.

How do you use this? First, go to the console’s Internet settings. Once you’re there, find the “offline mode” option. Select this, and you’ll go back to the magical time when Internet connections didn’t affect your console.

If you don’t mind playing a game by itself, this solution should work perfectly for you. However, if you like to play media like streaming services or music, you’ll have to forego these amenities to play.

Strange Sounds in the Disc Drive

One of the issues that affect many Xbox One units is noises coming from the console’s disc drive. Typically, this noise does not threaten your disk. In almost all cases, your disk will remain safe even with these sounds.

Sometimes, though, you may see a message that says the disk cannot be read. In cases like these, it’s best not to try and fix this issue yourself. Instead, contact a repair service that you can trust to solve the problem.

Losing Xbox One Gameplay Progress After Sleep Mode

One of the unique features of the Xbox One is its Always-On mode. This helpful feature lets you forget about downloading updates for the games or the console’s operational software.

How does it work? When you want to wrap up your gaming session, you can put the console into sleep mode. While the system sleeps, it downloads any necessary updates or changes.

This feature came about because Microsoft wanted the console to remain active at all times. For the most part, it’s a helpful feature. However, it also has some downsides.

For better or worse, Xbox systems are more unpredictable than PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch units. This more erratic nature results in some problems.

How, you ask? Let’s examine the PlayStation 4. This console saves your game into its memory during sleep mode and keeps your game running. This way, you can pick up where you left off immediately after booting up the system.

In contrast, the Xbox One likes to surprise people sometimes. While in sleep mode, it sometimes quits your game without any provocation. In many cases, it does so to download game updates.

When it closes your game, it often loses at least some game data. Unfortunately, you cannot chalk this up as a bug unique to your console.

Instead, this is an unfortunate feature of Microsoft’s design. So, if this prospect worries you, make sure you save your data at every turn.

Xbox Red Ring of Death: Does It Really Mean the End?

Xbox has produced some of the most beloved gaming experiences of the last twenty years. From Halo to Call of Duty, this console has long been a staple among gamers. However, its reputation also has a shadow side. Xbox fans going back to the 360 remember the horror stories about the Xbox red ring of death. It became common knowledge that once this ring struck your Xbox, it had met its doom.

Unfortunately, the ring didn’t stop with the Xbox 360. Instead, it carried over to the Xbox One red ring of death.

The red ring can occur in Xboxes of multiple generations. Fortunately, there’s some good news. It turns out that your console may be able to survive the red ring.

How can you do this, you ask? To learn more, check out our guide below! We explain what causes the red ring of death and possible solutions.

What Causes the Xbox Red Ring of Death?

Many Xbox players can tell you about the red ring of death, but not as many can inform you of its causes. Once you understand these, you have a better chance of fixing the Xbox.

The red ring functions like lights in many other devices in that it informs you of an error code in the hardware. Think of it as being like a check engine light in your vehicle.

What prompts this error code? Usually, it indicates a failure in one or more of your Xbox hardware components. Sometimes, though, it can signal that your console doesn’t receive enough power from the power supply.

How can you tell what caused the problem? Often, the system distinguishes issues by using different numbers of flashing lights.

The Number of Flashing Lights and What They Mean

Different numbers of flashing lights indicate varying problems. Some of these problems are relatively quick fixes, while others may prove more strenuous.

One Flashing Light: Hardware Failure

If you’ve experienced the Xbox red ring of death, you may have noticed that there are separate flashing lights coming from your console. Other times, though, there may only be one light.

If there’s one red light, this indicates that a hardware component failed in the system. If you see this light, the TV will also display an error code along with texts in several languages. Hardware problems like this often  require professional help to fix.

Two Flashing Lights:

When two flashing red lights appear on your Xbox, it indicates that the system overheated. To solve this problem, you can usually just let the system cool down.

First, turn off the Xbox console and unplug it from its outlet. From there, wait for at least thirty to sixty minutes before you start it again. While you wait, take the console to a ventilated area away from its other components.

Once you can tell the console cooled off, you can plug it back into its outlet and restart it. You can also avoid this problem by following some of these tips:

  • Place the console in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight or heat sources
  • Keep the console and its power supply on a cool, steady surface
  • Clean the exhaust grill and side panels by wiping them down with a clean cloth
  • Keep the console away from heat-generating or vibrating appliances, such as subwoofers

Following these steps helps your Xbox system stay cool and avoid overheating. This way, you can enjoy your gaming experience without having to worry about the system’s health.

Three Flashing Lights: Power Source Issues

There are a few ways that power sources can cause the Xbox 360 red ring of death. For example, if you have a faulty power supply, the console may not receive enough power to function correctly.

Another cause could be that the power supply cable isn’t fully connected to the console. Usually, this is a quick fix. All you have to do is make sure you plug the cable in all the way.

A power surge could also cause Xbox 3 rings of death displays. If the power surge comes through the Xbox’s connected outlet, it may cause a failure in your console.

A power surge also provides a straightforward fix. In this case, follow these steps to solve the problem:

  • Turn off the console
  • Unplug all power cables
  • Plug the cables back into the Xbox
  • Restart the console

Generally, this process will solve power surge-related problems. In 2008, shortly after the Xbox 360 premiere, these three red lights caused a tremendous problem for users. Many decided to send their consoles back, costing Microsoft over one billion dollars to repair the damage.

Four Flashing Lights: Power Surges or Connection Problems

In the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, power surges can cause the four flashing red lights. If a power surge or a brief outage occurs while the system is running, it leads to the four flashing lights. Fortunately, this has a quick fix.

All you have to do is unplug the system and plug it back in. Most of the time, this fixes the problem.

Another cause of the four lights can be a little trickier to fix, and it often faces the 360 in particular. This light appears when the console can’t detect an AV cable.

In other cases, you may have an AV cable plugged in. However, the system doesn’t recognize it due to a severe connection issue. In a case like this, it may be best to take your Xbox in for professional repairs.

There is some good news on this, though. If your Xbox uses an HDMI connection, it won’t generate this error code.

What Are a Few Common PS4 Problems and How Can They Be Fixed?

You never think it’ll happen to you. Technical issues with PS4s are an inevitable part of gaming life. But like many things in life, a little practical knowledge can go a long way! If you really care about your console and your quality time in the gaming world, then you’ll want to read this article from start to finish.

We’ve collected a few of the most common PS4 problems along with how they can be fixed. These solutions are often more straightforward than you think, so stay with us for these easy-to-remember tips.

PS4 Screen Color Problem

Screen color problems can vary. Some may experience their screen looking washed out while others may have huge color imbalances. This likely has to do with your RGB settings being mismatched between your console and TV/monitor.  If you’ve become a victim of this the solution is simple.

If you’re using a monitor, you’ll want to check its RGB Range—whether it runs on Limited, Full, or Automatic. Some monitors may only run on one range and it could be tricky to find out which. If that’s the case, you can google the TV or monitor’s model and check out its RGB Range.

Once you’ve tracked down this information, you want to now make sure that your PS4 is running on the same setting. To do this you want to go to Settings-> Video Output Settings-> RGB Range. Adjusting the setting to fit that of your TV or monitor will realign the colors and you can play your games as they were meant to be seen.

PS4 Update Problem

Update issues can occur for a variety of reasons. It could be that there are some corrupted files on your system previous to downloading the update file. It could also be that the update file itself is corrupted. Whatever the cause is, you will know when your PS4 fails to update when you see the infamous “Error Code SU-42118-6”.

To solve this issue, you’ll have to access the PS4’s Safe Mode. This is done by completely turning off your PS4 (just to clarify: this means not using Rest Mode). Wait for the white light on the console to stop flashing, indicating it has finished shutting down.

Now, to access Safe mode, you want to hold down the power button located on the console for 5-8 seconds. If you’ve done it successfully, the console should make two beeps while you’re holding down the power button.  Once the Safe Mode screen appears, you’ll have to connect your DUALSHOCK 4 to the console via a USB cable, as the wireless connection doesn’t work in Safe Mode.

Press the PS button on the controller and you should get access to 7 options. First, you want to give option 5, called “Rebuild Database,” a shot. This will help to clear out any corrupted files on your system. Your system should either shut down or reset after this process. Either way, return to Safe Mode and, this time, go to option 3, entitled “Update System Software”.

In this option, you will receive 3 additional options. Choose the third, called “Update Using Internet”. This should almost always give you a successful update. In fact, we recommend only ever updating your system using this method.

PS4 WiFi Connection Problems

Something all PS4 gamers have to come to terms with is the fact that Ps4s have a poor wireless receiver. The best mode of internet connection for a PS4 is to use a LAN cable, which can increase your download speed by over 100%. but if you insist on using WiFi, the first thing you want to do is find a way to get your console as close to your router or booster as possible.

There are a few things you will then want to check. One of the most common is to confirm that you have the latest update (see the previous tip). WiFi connection issues may stem from a firmware malfunction.

Another trick could be to change the DNS server. To do that, access Settings-> Network-> Set Up Internet Connection-> Use Wi-Fi-> Custom-> (Your wifi network)-> Automatic-> Do Not Specify-> Manual. There you can type in a new primary and secondary DNS of your choice

If none of these options have worked, you could try resetting your network connection settings. Bear in mind this resets the majority of your console’s customized settings including your DUALSHOCK 4 settings. Your games and save data will be safe though.

To do this access Settings-> Initialization-> Restore Default Settings-> Restore. This will clear out any information that may be causing your WiFi connection issues. But only use this as a last resort. It’s worth checking that your router is not poorly connected or your provider or PlayStation Network are not having issues of their own.

PS4 Controller Problems

This is in reference to connection issues. Hardware issues such as drifting and sticking are best left to the pros.

If there are any connection issues, check first that the USB cable and that the charging port is not damaged in any way.

A common mistake that often is made is that people try to connect while another pad may be connected first. To fix this, make sure that any other controllers are first switched off before switching or turning on a new controller. Connect the desired controller to the USB cable and press the PS button on the controller. It should connect instantly. At this point, you can then remove the cable if needs be.

If that doesn’t work, try resyncing your controller to the console. To do this access Settings-> Devices-> Bluetooth Devices. On this page, select your controllers and select “Forget Device”. Now, resync them by, once again, reconnecting the controller to the cable and pressing the PS button.

There is also a reset button on the back of the controller. it’s a small hidden button on the top right side of the device near a screw. using a small tool, like a toothpick or an unfolded paperclip, to press the button for about 5 seconds. Repeat the USB and PS button process to reconnect to the console.

PS4 Problems Beyond Your Ken

Granted, not all PS4 problems can be solved by adjusting the settings. At times, there are deeper issues at work. In this case, it may be wise to contact the pros.

Your console is precious, and while some dare to open it up and start tinkering under the direction of a YouTube video, the cost of a single slip of the hand could mean having to buy a new console altogether.

Leaving it to the pros is far cheaper and less painful. So why not find a repair store near you and give your PS4 and your gaming time the attention it deserves!

Having Issues With Your Handheld Games? Here’s What to Do Next

With the release of the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation Vita, handheld gaming earned renewed prominence. One of the primary appeals of the Switch was that players could enjoy a game anywhere. You could sit and play in your leisure hours at home or enjoy a game while traveling.

Handheld games make for fun and convenient gaming experiences. However, handheld game systems suffer technical difficulties like any other console. When these occur, players often have no idea how to fix the issue.

If that describes you, don’t worry! We’ll explore typical problems in the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation Vita, along with their solutions. So, let’s get started!

Dead Pixel Problems in Nintendo Handheld Games

In the past, Nintendo handheld games have experienced issues with dead pixels. By dead pixels, we mean dark patches and spots that appear on a device’s touchscreen because of stuck or dead pixels.

While the Nintendo Switch is the most recent console to suffer from this problem, it’s not the only example. When the Nintendo DS first launched in 2004, a similar issue occurred with its touchscreen.

Unfortunately, there’s not really a way to repair this problem. Dead pixels usually happen because of issues with individual LCD screens.

Instead, your best bet is to return the Switch and purchase a new one. You have the highest chances of returning the Switch if you bought it online. The Consumer Contracts Regulations allow you to return any online purchase within 14 days.

If you bought the Switch in-store, you may have a tough time returning it. Nintendo does not recognize this issue as a defect, so warranties usually won’t recognize the issue in their coverage.

Switch Handheld Game Console Won’t Turn On

This issue can be a little tricky. Sometimes, Switch owners can’t turn their handheld games on. The most common explanation for this is that the battery died.

We’ll assume, though, that you’ve already thought of that and charged the device. If your handheld game console still won’t turn on, it’s possible that the screen froze in a black screen position.

How can you tell if this is the problem? Nintendo suggests taking your Switch into a dark room. If you notice light coming from the black screen, your console has frozen.

What’s the solution? Hold the POWER button down for at least twelve seconds. Doing so will turn off the console.

Once you’ve done so, press the POWER button again to turn it back on. In most situations, this approach can solve the problem.

A similar problem sometimes occurs with the PlayStation Vita. Fortunately, if the Vita has a weak charge, it’s easier to tell. A blinking orange light will show that the Vita needs to charge.

If the screen is turned on but unresponsive, try a similar approach as for the Switch. Hold the power button down for about thirty seconds. Doing so will cause the system to shut down.

From there, give the system a little time to rest. In about an hour, turn it back on and see if the screen operates this time.

Running Out of Storage for Handheld Games

What happens if you download enough game software that you run out of storage? Unfortunately, this is easy to do on the Switch. Nintendo only provided 32GB of storage space, six GB of which run the operating system.

Fortunately, there’s an easy workaround! The console supports microSD cars, which you can insert in the opening beneath the kickstand. This way, you can significantly increase your storage capacity.

Joystick Stops Responding

Joystick issues affect both the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation Vita. However, they often happen for different reasons.

The PlayStation Vita’s joysticks and buttons may cease to respond because of sweat and grime. Over time, these materials work their way into the buttons, causing them to jam.

Early in the Switch’s production, gamers noticed issues with their left Joy-Con when playing the system in its console form. Often, this happened as a result of a weak connection between the Joy-Con and the console.

If you notice this problem in either system, the solution is usually to let professionals repair or replace the affected part. Find a reputable repair service today if you experience this issue.

Memory Card Issues

The PlayStation Vita still uses a memory card system like many consoles before it. Sometimes, using a memory card comes with a set of difficulties.

A Vita system may have a hard time locating your memory card. Usually, this means that the card got bumped out of place. If your system can’t find the memory card, check to make sure it’s installed correctly.

If the card is in the right place and the system still won’t pick it up, turn off the system. Then, remove the memory card and inspect it closely.

Do you notice any debris in the contact pins? If so, this could be the cause of your connection problems. Gently wipe the debris off of the card.

Next, turn the Vita back on. When you do, you should see a message that says there is no memory card installed. With the system on, re-insert the card.

Make sure you hear a clicking noise when you put the card back in. This sound indicates that the card went in all the way.

Sometimes, a similar problem happens for Nintendo Switch games. Since these games operate like SD cards, their contact pins could also get dirty. If your Switch doesn’t recognize your game card, wipe it down thoroughly and try again.
